Mission

Bharatanatyam is a rich Indian classical art form, considered the oldest among the dance styles. Systematized and recorded by sage Bharata in a comprehensive text known as the Natya Sastra, it is a highly stylized and scientifically developed dance form with an unmatched ability to entertain, enthrall, and enlighten audiences. The dance has three main aspects: the rhythmic movements of the feet and body, intricate system of hand gestures combined with eye movements, and dramatic expressions and mime.

The dance was developed and nurtured in the temples as a form of divine worship. Today, it is performed on the concert stage bringing the spirit of the temple and a glimpse and grandeur of ancient India to a wider audience.

Our goals:

  • To promote community awareness of Indian classical dance.
  • To support world class artists through sponsorship of visits, performance, lecture demonstrations and master classes in order to set examples of excellence for students and teachers to appreciate and emulate.
  • To provide equal opportunity for members of the community, both artistic and cultural, to learn Indian classical dance in a nurturing, disciplined environment.
